VOICES IN PARTNERSHIP

Voices in Partnership (Knowsley) is an association, which consists of people who use mental health services, those who have used the service in the past and all those who experience emotional or mental distress. These people form the body of the group and it is their voices that should be heard.

Associate membership of the group is open to professionals and workers in the mental health field, and others who have an interest in providing information, contacts, access to resources and generally provide support and encouragement to the association and its members.

The main objectives are:

  • To promote the consultation and participation of all those who experience emotional of mental distress, and their carers, in the provision of services in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors.
  • To raise awareness and promote education in the field of mental health, thereby reducing stigma and discrimination.

The Knowsley Voices in Partnership was originally established in 1998 as a vehicle to improve the delivery of mental health services within Knowsley.

VIP meetings are held in Halewood, Huyton, Kirkby, Prescot and Whiston, giving members the opportunity to have a say in how services are provided and to protect and improve the services that people currently receive. The association also has a social input, arranging such things as quiz nights and coach trips.

Members of the association are eligible to become service user representatives at the monthly Local Implementation Team meetings, which are attended by the Joint Commissioner for mental health services, staff from various statutory, voluntary and private sector and also carers of service users.
